OK, let me update you on the room situation. Both blocks of rooms (at The Highlander and The Habitat Suites) did officially expire.
However, I just checked, and The Highlander will honor the block rates until the 23rd for a few more rooms. In order to take advantage of that rate, however, you need to mention “Austin Easy Street Recumbents Rate Code” when you call.
And, Habitat Suites does have a few more rooms left. You could always see if you could sweet-talk them into honoring the expired block rate. They can only say “no.”
And, of course, there are other hotels in the neighborhood, some of which are listed further down here.
SPECIAL RATES at Habitat Suites and The Highlander expire on Feb. 10. Don’t be caught unaware!
Easy Street has reserved a block of rooms at the Habitat Suites Hotel for the weekend of the HOT Rally. We have used this venue as our “sponsored” hotel for several years now and their service is top-notch. Use the code “HOT17” when you make your reservation, either online or by phone. For $89* per night, you get:
- A King Bedroom Suite & Sofa. Please specify that you want a ground-floor room when you make your reservation (assuming you will be running your bikes/trikes in and out).
- Each suite features a living area, full kitchen w/ refrigerator, satellite television, a king-size bed, and more.
- Complimentary happy hour Monday – Saturday.
- Complimentary breakfast buffet every morning! This is not a cheap continental buffet: they have a full spread of breakfast foods for your enjoyment.
- Free Wifi
- Convenient proximity to Easy Street Recumbents.
- A long list of other amenities.
(* Apologies for not getting last year’s room rate changed and corrected before some of you called in to make your reservations. This year’s rate was, in fact, $93.00. They have now reduced it to $89.00. YAY!)
The Habitat will usually be SOLD OUT the weekend of the HOT Rally, so be safe instead of sorry – reserve your room NOW.
The reservation block is for February 24-27, but just let them know which nights you need.
Problems? I hope not! But if there are, please call (512-789-4118) or email Rebecca firstname.lastname@example.org
The Highlander Hotel
Unfortunately, Habitat Suites does not allow pets. If you wish to bring your pet to the rally, The Highlander has stepped up to be a HOT supporter. Call for reservations to 512-428-4240. Mention you are reserving a room out of a reserved block for Easy Street Recumbents. The room rate is $99/room for either a King-size bed or a double/double. Dogs cannot be over 50 lbs, you cannot have more than two in a room, and it is an additional $10/dog/night. But, hey, this way you can bring your dog(s) and it is JUST down the street from the Habitat Suites. And, yeah, pink sheep … well, it’s different!
La Quinta Inn – Highland Mall
Another place to bring poochie is the La Quinta Inn close to Easy Street. This is not a sponsored hotel. The rates are a bit higher than Habitat Suites and we can’t vouch for their service record, but if there is enough demand for rooms there we can see about setting up a block of rooms there as well. Please comment here or visit the Facebook Event Page to let us know if you’re interested in staying at the La Quinta with your pet.
Super 8 Austin University/Downtown Area
The Super 8 Hotel is another pet-friendly hotel near Easy Street, but not a sponsored hotel. The rates are a bit higher than Habitat Suites and we can’t vouch for their service record, but if there is enough demand for rooms there we can see about setting up a block of rooms there as well. Please comment here or visit the Facebook Event Page to let us know if you’re interested in staying at the Super 8 with your pet.
We are thrilled to have found an RV option that keeps you close to the action! The Highland ACC campus
If you are interested in availing yourself of this opportunity, please contact Rebecca directly
The deal is that the RV’s need to be completely self-contained (this is just a parking lot they are offering us). The cost is $100/weekend if we have a minimum of 5 RV’s (otherwise the price goes up). We can have up to 10. And, I really do know that I don’t have to say this to our group, but just to cover all bases, the better-behaved we are (leaving no trash behind, etc. etc.), the more likely they are to let us do this again next year — which would be great.
The sooner we know of your interest, the better. January 31 will be the deadline to take advantage of this opportunity.
If you don’t mind camping (or parking your RV) a little farther away, then there are these:
McKinney Falls State Park
5808 McKinney Falls Pkwy, Austin, TX 78744

McKinney Falls State Park has been the park of choice for attendees of past rallies. They have lots of nice campsites but a limited number of 50 amp sites: reserve early! This is less than a 30 minutes drive to Easy Street and the Pflugerville park where we have had our group rides in the past, and might again. There are also some park trails that anyone can ride on.
In addition to their site fees, there is a daily per person fee but if you have an annual Texas State Park pass, that will cover it!
