A few rooms are left …

at the Habitat Suites, 512-467-6000, and at The Highlander Hotel, 512-428-4240.  The Highlander is willing to extend the block rate we arranged with them up to the 23rd, but you need to mention “Austin Easy Street Recumbents Rate Code” in order to get it.   There are, of course, other hotels in the neighborhood, some of which are listed in the Housing section under the Registration drop-down menu on this website.  Good luck!  You can still come!

Charity Raffle Beneficiary: The National Stroke Association

And, I can’t think of a better way to celebrate that announcement than by sharing with you a link to their e-newsletter website, Stroke Smart,  where a story about one of our customers, a stroke survivor by the name of Bill Hrncir, has recently been posted:  Natl Stroke Assn article

As you will read, Bill and his wife, Dee Dee, started the Laredo Stroke Survivor group sometime after Bill suffered a stroke in 2006 at the age of 47.  We got to know them when Bill bought a recumbent and, since then, several other group members have discovered the joys of ‘bent riding as well.

We are thrilled to be able to contribute something to the efforts of the N.S.A. to provide stroke education and to support Stroke Survivor Groups which are so important to the recovery and support of stroke survivors, their caregivers, and their families and friends.  For more about this organization, visit their website:  The National Stroke Assn

We hope that, through this connection, the word will spread about how useful the adaptability of recumbents can be to stroke survivors, as well as those who suffer from a variety of other conditions and injuries which would otherwise keep them from being able to cycle.

Bill and friends from the Laredo group will be joining us at this year’s Rally.  Please seek them out and introduce yourselves.  And — I know I can count on our community of riders to be generous in your purchase of raffle tickets from which the proceeds will go to the National Stroke Association.

Thanks in advance for your generosity.  Tickets will be one for $2 and three for $5.  Cash and checks will be most handy for ticket purchase, though you will be able to purchase them with your credit card as well.

MORE Sponsors for the HOT!

We are very excited about having a few more sponsors show their appreciation and support for this year’s HOT,  Easy Street, as well as the recumbent community in general.  We will get more about them on this website, but in the meantime, just know that Nite Ize, Adventure Cycling,  Mirrycle Corp, Bend-It Cycling, and Schwalbe Tires have all stepped up to contribute to the charity raffle and/or the Goodie Bags.  Those Goodie Bags are going to be GREAT!  And, you are definitely going to want to bring plenty of money for raffle tickets … $2/ticket or 3 tickets for $5.00.  (Cash or check are preferred, but you will be able to purchase them in the shop with a credit card as well.)

NEW ACTIVITIES ADDED …

Can you smell the wood burning from where you are?  Our creative juices are just working overtime here in the Easy Street office as we work to make this year’s HOT as fun and entertaining as possible.  Our latest plans include:

  • A Hospitality Hour back at Easy Street after our Saturday out in Pflugerville tearing up the countryside in the morning and expanding our brains (and our imaginations) in the afternoon.  I figure it will happen around 5:00-7:00 p.m.  We will have some beverages and snacks, conversation, and a chance to hook up with others as we all head out to dinner.  If you want to ride to dinner, there will be those of us who are doing so.  Just make sure to bring your lights!  A list of nearby restaurants will be provided.
  • On Sunday morning, don’t forget you will have the opportunity to experience “Urban Riding” with Mike or “Bike to Church” with Micah first thing.  The Rodeo will begin at about 11:00 a.m. and … GET READY … it will start with a parade of everyone who would like to enter a competition with their ‘bents in two different categories:  “Fabulously Fashionable” and “Wild, Weird, and Wonderful.”  So, are your imaginations already working?  I hope so!  I can hardly wait to see what y’all come up with.
